After obtaining his Diploma in Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1993, Yeo Chee Kiong departed for Scotland to obtain his Masters of Fine Art in Glasgow School of Art (GSA) in 2002. During his academic pursuits overseas, he was a recipient of the Dr Mary Doughty Smith Scholarship (2003) from GSA and the John Kinross Scholarship from the Royal Scottish Academy (2003). Since graduation, he has held two solo exhibitions: the first was at the Substation, Singapore in 2001 titled 'Sculpture', and the latest at the Red Mill Gallery in Vermont Studio Centre, USA in 2006 titled 'Storm Black & Night Dark'. He has also participated in several group exhibitions both locally and overseas including Australia, Italy, Japan, Scotland, UK, Sri Lanka, HK and Canada. An award-winning artist, his list of awards includes the 14th Asian Artists Award (2006) for the VSC Fellowship 2006 - 2007 from the Freeman Foundation USA, the Grand Prize for the 2nd CDL Singapore Sculpture Award (2005), First Prize for both the 55th and 56th NAFA Open House Exhibition Commendation Award (1992 & 1993) and Commendation for Australian Art Award for Young Artists (1990). He was conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council, Singapore in 2006. While participating in the International Competition for Young Sculptors in Milan, Italy in 2006, Yeo Chee Kiong was short-listed as one of the 25 finalists amongst a total of 574 international entries who are outstanding young sculptors from diverse countries. After a six-year stint at RISIS Pte Ltd as a full-time sculptor-cum-designer, he is currently a full time artist, a part-time lecturer in Sculpture at NAFA, an Adjunct Lecturer in Drawing at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and the President of Sculpture Society Singapore (2005 - 2007). Besides being skilled in traditional methods of rendering three-dimensional forms, his repertoire also includes installation works and video presentations.
